My opinion.. search out a D44 from a TJ Saraha, no need for shafts, truss etc. I think most came with 3:73's still a little high but may be okay and could match the front already? If needed regear front and rear to 4:10 or 4:56, lots of lockers options too for D44 if he wants to go that route. The front will probably hold up to 33's pending Dales foot action.
I personally wouldn't drop a cent in a D35 but this is just my 2 cents
If its creeping up on $1500 for the Super 35, I think you could be in the same ball park or less with a geared 44 with a lunchbox locker. ( I think my front D44 with complete rebuild, high steer arms, 4:10 and lockright was about $1000. Ya ya its never been used.. I'll get there someday..

Yeh locker in the front with manual hubs and your golden, I ran a Lockright in my D30 for quite a few years (manual hubs). You don`t even notice it untill hubs are locked. go buy those axles above and weld on coil buckets and tabs for trailing arms and go crawlin!
