Ok .. so Deerhaven checks to see why my 700 Polaris is barely running ... for about $150 labour ... they say it needs a stator. They sell them for retail at $670 ... so with taxes ... about $760.... so I order one from Quebec for $215 tax, delievered UPS !

Takes me 4 hrs to haul the old stator out ... rookie, 1st time doing THAT on any bike ... but JEAZ, Polaris made it SO HARD to get the old harness out ... sort of like Jim Carey squeezing out the butt of a rhino.

All excited ... ready to install the new one ... may take 1-2 hrs ... BUT I find that part of the stator is slightly different and won't fit on without some "tweeking" so e-mail the distributor.... tick tick ... waiting.

IN the meantime ... a few pics.

Had to take off the running board ... then 2 stator covers ... which were stuck on ... one was plastic.

Naturally it would go up to the front of the bike ... which requires taking off the front rack !

After taking the radiator cover off, and finding 2 contacts at the fron from underneath , of course you'll need to loosen the top of the body, to shift the transmission breather out of the way , than take the tire off to get your contorted hand into a micro hole where they squeezed 3 set of cables through ... oh .. there was finding all the nylon ties and figuring out how to get you hand and cutters in to cut them.

A pic of the STATOR side

and the front ...

so ... after about 4 hours ... I find that there is a slight difference in the stators ... important enough that the new one won't fit on the housing..

Just replaced the left front axle ... purchased over e-bay for 1/2 cost of Deerhaven.

How to get the axle out ... since there is a snap ring around it , the axle need a REAL HARD quick SNAP pulling out. ... couldn't do it ... seemed euchred ... so

Solution ... strap off the 4 wheeler on the other side to an immoveable object like a Land Cruiser.

Then on the side you want to yank ... attach one end of a short chain to the inner universal ... then attach a large HEAVY tool to the other end ( I used a huge adjustable wrench) .

Leave soome slack and then as hard as you can snap the wrench back away from the bike.

CAUTION ... make sure there is nothing you care about on that side as the axle will come flying out ... like your nuts ...you may even let go of the wrench and chain combo. If you have a Jeep on that side ... PERFECT.
